Do as I say and do as I do. Matthew 23:1-1

Matthew 23:1-12 Gospel reading for Sunday 30th October 2011

Jesus was in effect saying to the people ... "look at those scribes and pharisees ... what they are saying is OK but don't follow what they are doing."

The Gospel reading for this week appears to be a variation of that age-old joking expression ... "Just do as I say ... not as I do."

In our roles as Christian people and key leaders in Lutheran Schools modeling is vital. People do watch what we do. The critics are always very quick to attack when our in-practice modeling is not in line with our in-theory rhetoric or the "what we say we do."

There is a great reminder for us today in this message that Jesus gave the people of his day. How do we measure up? Do we genuinely do what we say we do?

The passage is also about humility and servanthood and as such provides us with a powerul reminder to actively model these attributes in our daily operations.
