The transfiguration ... any relevance to us today? Matthew 17:1-9

Matthew 17:1-9 Gospel Reading for Transfiguration Sunday, March 6th 2011

In February 2010 I reflected on the parallel passage in Luke's Gospel: see Transfiguration: bizarre story or critical incident?

There's probably not much more that I would like to add to that in the space available here - except that in looking closely at Matthew's version of the transfiguration, it raises the point that for any one into parallel studies, this story is a great candidate for exploration. So for those who may have a bit extra time up their sleeve this week, here is the link to all three passages. (You can quickly print the three versions).

In thinking about the relevance of the transfiguration today in our daily work in Lutheran Schools, I could not help but be drawn again to thinking about the concept of a "mountain top experience" and to a song recorded back in the 1990's by that superb gospel folk duo from the US - Swen and Dean.

So for something different this week, I'll leave you with their song "Mountain" to reflect on.
